AJSO’s Concern Over the Arrest of 1TV Journalist Obaidullah Ahmadi by the Taliban

Reportedly, Mr. Obaidullah Ahmadi, a local reporter for private 1TV, was arrested by Taliban intelligence on unknown charges in Kunduz province on Sunday.

There is no information about his fate and local authorities have not yet commented on the matter.

The Afghanistan Journalists Support Organization is deeply concerned about this situation and condemns these illegal arrests while urging the Taliban authorities to uphold the fundamental right to freedom of expression and promptly release Mr. Ahmadi and all other imprisoned journalists unconditionally.

The organization calls upon international institutions and human rights organizations to amplify their voices and take decisive action to secure the freedom of all detained journalists.

AJSO pledges to advocate for the release of journalists and closely monitor their legal status. Our efforts will persist until all of our colleagues are freed and can continue their vital work without fear or intimidation.
